The first International Congress on Algae Biotechnology was celebrated on 9-11 April 2025, where WIN-BIG project coordinator, Helena Vieira, was invited to give an oral presentation on 10 April. The event was organised by PROALGA and GreenCoLab; this transformative event explored groundbreaking advancements and practical applications of algae in sustainability, health, and industry. The picture below shows some of the speakers of the three-day event.

Over three action-packed days in the city of Lisbon, attendees delved into the latest research, discover disruptive technologies, and network with pioneers shaping the algae ecosystem.

The mission of the organising institutions is to  address the entire algae value chain, from cutting-edge microalgae research to macroalgae’s industrial applications. With topics ranging from biotechnological breakthroughs to market commercialization strategies, the event offered a unique opportunity for attendees to access actionable insights and forge partnerships that will drive the algae sector toward a sustainable and economically viable future.
